Spider-Man, X-Men Headline New Marvel Manga Titles From Viz

Marvel Comics and Viz Media are expanding their partnership with two new manga titles: Spider-Man: Octo-Girl and X-Men Manga.

Following the English release of Deadpool: Samurai and Spider-Man: Fake Red, Viz is doubling down by localizing another pair of manga volumes inspired by the Marvel mythos. The first — Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, Vol. 1 — arrives in English this October from writer Hideyuki Furuhashi and artist Betten Court (the team behind My Hero Academia: Vigilantes).

Spider-Man rogue Doctor Octopus faces his biggest challenge yet — living life as a middle school girl in Japan!” an official synopsis (via Marvel.com) reads. “After a battle with Spider-Man, the evil genius scientist Doctor Octopus falls into a coma. When he wakes up, his consciousness is in the body of Otoha Okutamiya, a middle school girl in Tokyo! Thus begins the strange school life of Spider-Man’s biggest rival … as a normal Japanese girl!”

Then, X-Men Manga, Volume 1 arrives in November from writer/artist Hiroshi Higuchi. The newly-translated manga — which has been out of print for years — adapts the fan-favorite X-Men: The Animated Series.

“Jubilation Lee is a teenager with a secret: she’s a mutant, the next level of human evolution, and has fantastic powers,” the synopsis reads. “All she wants is a normal life with trips to the mall to get away from her parents, but when the mutant-hunting robots known as Sentinels come after her, that normal life is pushed out of her reach! Discover the X-Men — mutant heroes hated and feared by a world they’re sworn to protect — alongside Jubilee in this classic manga series releasing Fall 2024.”

Deadpool: Samurai returns in coloring book form

All that being said, Spider-Man: Octo-Girl and X-Men Manga aren’t the only new releases Marvel and Viz have in store this year. The publishers have also announced Deadpool: Samurai – The Official Coloring Book, which puts a DIY spin on Hikaru Uesugi’s manga starring the infamous mutate mercenary.

Due for release in August, the 80-page coloring book is “packed with illustrations featuring Marvel characters such as Iron ManThorBlack WidowLoki, and more for fans of the Merc with a Mouth to color!”

Deadpool: Samurai – The Official Coloring Book goes on sale Tuesday, August 13 from Viz Media. Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, Vol. 1 follows suit on October 8. X-Men Manga, Volume 1 then releases on November 12.
