Gunn recently praised Sklenar’s work in 1923 during his appearance on the official after-show podcast for Peacemaker. This may be a direct hint from the DCU boss, or at least fans think it is.
Sklenar is getting into superhero shape
Sklenar has been actively training to achieve a more buffed-up appearance. His Instagram posts indicate that he is training for a new role, and he looks physically much bigger than before. This could also hint towards a possible superhero role.
Sklenar fits the established age of Batman in the DCU
James Gunn had previously made it clear during the casting of David Corenswet as Superman that he would want to keep the characters’ ages comic-accurate. This means that Batman could be a bit older than Superman, who is in his early thirties. So, Sklenar, who turned 35 this year, seems to be of the right age. It helps that he looks the part, too.
The 1923 star wants to play the role
Like other actors who have made it clear that they would love to become Batman, Sklenar has also expressed his interest in the role during an appearance at The Movie Podcast in February 2025. He even said that it has been his secret dream to play the role.
