Why Freakier Friday Box Office Predictions Remain Strong

In good news for Disney, the Freakier Friday box office predictions continue to look solid despite it being released just a few weeks after The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The comedy film starring Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Julia Butters, who is rumored to play the X-Men Kitty Pryde in the MCU, is set to release on August 8, 2025. That’s not that long after both Fantastic Four 2025 and Superman 2025, both of which will still dominate theaters when the film comes out. But fortunately, a new report explains how Freakier Friday’s box office projections still remains high.

What are the latest Freakier Friday box office projections?

Box office predictions for Freakier Friday have the film earning $45 million to $55 million in its opening weekend and somewhere between $115 million and $160 million in domestic sales across the United States.

These new figures come from a July 18 report from Box Office Theory, which has tracked the upcoming Disney film for several weeks. These predictions are higher than those for Weapons and Bad Guys 2, which release around the same time as Freakier Friday. The site positions the movie among projects that lean on nostalgia, like Lilo & Stitch (2025), Mean Girls (2024), and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024), and notes in an earlier report that it’s “a notable generational crossover” that brings Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis back from the original 2003 movie, Freaky Friday.

This sequel is also targeted toward female audiences, and given the lack of theatrical content aimed at women throughout the summer, Freakier Friday “stands to be in a good late-summer position where it can fill a void for an underserved audience while simultaneously offering a family-friendly option.”

It should be noted that the latest predictions for the film’s domestic performance has been lowered from its original $115-$190 million prediction. The report suggests that some of this reduction could be due to Disney being primarily focused on Fantastic Four as that’s the bigger blockbuster at the moment, but pre-sales for Freakier Friday should pick up after the Marvel reboot’s marketing campaign wraps up.
