The Daredevil: Born Again trailer has sparked debate among fans and it raises questions about whether the series continues Netflix’s Daredevil story or serves as a reboot. Iconic characters like Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk return, alongside glimpses of new conflicts. The trailer offers clues but keeps viewers guessing.
Here’s what the Born Again trailer hints about its ties to the original series and Daredevil’s future.
Is Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again a continuation of the Netflix show or a reboot?
The Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again serves as a sequel to Netflix’s Daredevil.
The direction of the show, which was initially designed as an 18-episodic reimagining, changed after six episodes were shot. Marvel made changes to the creative team and took on Dario Scardapane, who became its showrunner. This was done to ensure that the new series better matches the tone and storytelling approach of the original Netflix series. The rewritten narrative retains much of the original footage while incorporating new material.
Charlie Cox (Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) reprise their roles, continuing their arcs from Netflix’s Daredevil. Jon Bernthal will be seen as Frank Castle (Punisher) in the sequel, with his role likely expanded. Additional returning cast members include Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen, Elden Henson as Foggy, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin (Bullseye).
The series picks up years after Daredevil Season 3, focusing on Matt shifting from his vigilante role to legal justice while Wilson Fisk campaigns to become New York City’s mayor. This sets the stage for a conflict between Murdock and Fisk, along with the re-emergence of characters like Dex (Bullseye), Punisher, and new villains White Tiger and Muse.
After significant changes to the production, filming resumed this month. The new trailer highlights the series’ continuity with Netflix’s Daredevil while positioning it firmly within the MCU. Daredevil: Born Again will begin streaming on March 4, 2025.
