The LEGO movies were getting predictable there for a while. A Batman spin-off, a Ninjago spin-off…honestly, it’s surprising we didn’t get a full-on Star Wars LEGO feature, but we got plenty of TV specials. LEGOs at their best when they surprise, though, and their next movie is a documentary — sort of. Piece by Piece will be a documentary about Pharrell Williams, with real-life footage recreated in LEGO, and the first part of LEGO’s new deal with Universal, where Pharrell is an MVP for his Minions franchise tunes.
Like a Room Without a Roof
LEGO’s newest set isn’t specifically based on a scene from Piece by Piece, as far as we know yet, but it is fruit from their collaboration with Pharrell. And yes, you read right — it will include 51 different minifig heads with a wider range of skin tones than ever before. There are seven shades in total, and at least 30 of the heads include all-new designs. The idea is that any fans can see themselves in this set. It includes a Pharrell minifig, as well as one you can customize with any of the extra heads.
The set, entitled “Over the Moon,” includes three key elements: all the heads, reflecting the diversity of consumers. the space shuttle, reflecting Pharrell’s love of space. Finally, the multicolored jetstream features all the colors of your imagination. Per the official description, “The new set also includes several brand-new color-piece combos, created specifically for this project, such as the custom-made windscreen canopy made in drum-lacquered gold color for the first time ever.”
The set will cost $109.99 in the U.S. and will be available to purchase at www.LEGO.com and in LEGO stores from September 20, 2024. Piece by Piece, directed by Morgan Neville, will hit theaters beginning October 11.
