Masters of the Universe, as a toy line in any form, thrives heavily on remakes. From Origins to Classics, it’s primarily made up of upgrades of existing characters. Only rarely does something new enter the room, but the creative geniuses at Mondo weren’t going to be stifled by that, even in a line that’s so pricey it practically requires familiarity and nostalgia to force a purchase decision.
Ghost Busts
Scare Glow is clearly their favorite figure, as they’ve made more versions of him — three so far, and more on the way — than even He-Man. Something about a glow-in-the-dark grim reaper on steroids just has primal power. The Mondo team likes him so much, in fact, that its not just doing him again this summer, but he’s bringing the horse he rode in on, too.
Horses aren’t common steeds in Eternia, though Scare Glow is canonically from another dimension. They’re more popular among She-Ra and friends — Eternia’s known for ridable panthers and robot horses. Scare Mare looks like a skeletal creature, just like his rider, with decaying wings and glowing armor. One suspects the base body could be used for She-Ra’s Swift Wind, with a few adjustments and healthier skin. Mondo revealed Scare Mare over the weekend at Monsterpalooza, and it’s their first original contribution to the mythology.
Both of the mainline Scare Glow figures have long since sold out, so the horror-ble horse needs a new edition. Mondo has it covered, with a revised Scare Glow that looks more like the recent Revelation/Revolution incarnation as lord of the underworld.
No further information is available yet beyond a summer preorder date, but expect Scare Glow to cost around $275 and Scare Mare in the $500 range, if past items are any indication. And if inflation hasn’t made him even pricier.
