Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Music to Feature in Orchestral Concert

The music of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series is coming to the stage with a full orchestra for a unique concert tour.

As reported by The Beat, Avatar’s original composer Jeremy Zuckerman is returning to arrange a two-hour live concert which will tour in Europe and the United States. A full orchestra will perform music from Avatar: The Last Airbender, supported by a cinema screen that plays scenes from the show. At this time, the tour has dates in four cities scheduled for 2024.

  • January 21, 2024 – London, England – Royal Festival Hall
  • January 25, 2024 – Paris, France – Le Grand Rex
  • February 24, 2024 – San Francisco, CA – Golden Gate Theatre
  • March 2nd, 2024 – Brooklyn, NY – Kings Theatre

True to the Avatar legacy of drawing inspiration from worldwide cultures, the orchestra will employ instruments like the Japanese taiko and Chinese erhu alongside the more familiar woodwinds and strings in Western symphonic music.

Plenty of Avatar: The Last Airbender on the horizon

Avatar: The Last Airbender began as an animated fantasy series that ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons, starting in 2005. Set in a world where people may be born with elemental “bending” powers tied to their geographical background, the story begins with the Fire Nation initiating a war of conquest and throwing the world out of balance. The young airbender Aang, emerging from an iceberg after having gone missing 100 years ago, may be able to restore peace if he can learn to bend all four elements and come into his own as his generation’s Avatar.

The series was widely praised for its rich worldbuilding, complex plot and characters, and quality animation, and the musical score was often noted as a particular highlight. Avatar: The Last Airbender was followed by a sequel series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and the franchise has also produced a live-action movie, comics, novels, games, and merchandise. A live-action Avatar TV adaptation is now headed to Netflix, and multiple animated movies are also in the works.
