Marvel Multiverse Tabletop Role-Playing Game Will Launch In 2022

Back in 1984, Marvel and TSR teamed up for Marvel Super Heroes: The Heroic Role-Playing Game, which had updates and new modules for five years. However, the subsequent Marvel tabletop revivals didn’t have staying power. But now, Marvel will jump back into tabletop next year.

Via Marvel.com, the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: Playtest Rulebook will hit stores in spring 2022. Matt Forbeck wrote the rulebook and co-designed the game, which will utilize “the all-new D616 System.” Marvel also calls it an “easy-to-learn system for newcomers to tabletop RPGs and a natural evolution for those familiar with the most popular tabletop role-playing games on the market.

Forbeck has previously written Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest as well as The Marvel Encyclopedia.

“As a lifelong Marvel fan and gamer, this project is a dream come true,” said Forbeck in a statement. “Fortunately, after writing a couple editions of The Marvel Encyclopedia and designing tabletop games professionally for over 30 years, I feel ready to help make this the best Marvel TTRPG experience ever. I can’t wait for everyone to have the chance to play it!”

Under the D616 system, players can assume the role of Marvel mainstays like Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Panther, and more. Additionally, players will have the option to create their own heroes for the game.

Iban Coello drew the cover, and the rulebook will also include illustrations from other artists. Marvel also noted that fans who buy the Playtest Rulebook “will have an opportunity to help shape the game with a chance to offer feedback on the rules before its full release in 2023.”

Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: Playtest Rulebook will be released in March 2022.
