New Classic Cartoon TMNT Figures Headed for Target

NECA‘s persistence in carving out whatever piece of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy license they could paid off this year. Following a successful line of 1990 movie figures at Gamestop, they managed to place a series of cartoon TMNT figures in Target stores. The results have been a huge success for the company. Though perhaps less so for fans who haven’t been able to grab any as they fly off shelves fast. The recent Bebop and Rocksteady set seems hardest of all to find lately, though more keep shipping. And the company just unveiled three new two packs for spring of 2020.

April O’Neil and Casey Jones are major characters, and come with Foot Soldiers who emphasize the robotic nature of the characters on the show. (Due to children’s TV rules, violence to robots is much more allowable.) These Feet come sliced and bashed, with robo-guts exposed. Leatherhead and Slash feature their animated looks for the first time — the vintage figures were toys first, and the cartoon adapted them quite loosely.

All the animated-style figures feature line-work deco that emphasizes the drawn style of original TV cels. But that’s not all. The movie figures continue at Gamestop, while more video game-based figures appear to be in the works as well. There’s even talk that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IIThe Secret of the Ooze will be next on the agenda. Which implies Tokka, Rahzar, and Super Shredder could be coming. No word on Vanilla Ice, but we’ve come far enough that he might be considered cool nostalgia rather than cheesy tie-in.

Check out the three new two-packs below. More accessories will be revealed at a later date.
