McFarlane Toys Shares First Look At Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero Figure

McFarlane Toys Releases First Mortal Kombat Figure Pics

Although prototypes for McFarlane‘s Mortal Kombat action figures were shown at Comic-Con, it appears they’ve finally “finished him.” Or at least Sub-Zero is done. Sporting 22 points of articulation, the cold-blooded ninja now gets his official product photos. They confirm his accessories: two icy axes, and a frozen skull with spine fragments. Todd McFarlane is fairly well known for bringing gore and horror to toys, and he clearly loves the MK Fatalities.

Mortal Kombat is a license that many other toy companies held in the past, from Hasbro’s awkward G.I. Joe repaints to Storm Collectibles’ $100+ imports. And most tend to start with a more basic Sub-Zero in “Klassic” Lin Kuei ninja duds. All the better to prep endless repaints as other characters, just as the games once did. McFarlane Toys doesn’t play that way. They live for the ultra-detail, and as such took the more recent Mortal Kombat 11 approach.

McFarlane Toys uses a couple of different scales. However, Sub-Zero and the Mortal Kombat figures are in the 7-inch range. In other words, they’re in the same scale as The Walking Dead, and most NECA and Diamond Select figures. The Sub-Zero figure comes with a circular base to help him stand in more dynamic poses.

Has McFarlane achieved a “Flawless Victory” here? You can be the judge when these figures hit retail in late September. Certainly we’ve come a long way from the days when McFarlane Toys made barely poseable statues. But let’s see some bigger monsters, like Goro and Motaro. Our collector hearts just might burst…in a non-fatal way.
