Superhero Hype’s Best Amazon Movie and DVD Deals for Feb 17

Movie theaters may be opening again, but not everyone’s ready to go back. And if the kids are stuck at home, purchases, rather than rentals, start to look better and better for the inevitable repeat viewings. But with so many, it’s hard to know where to begin or what to afford. In this ongoing series, Superhero Hype takes a look at some of the better selections and deals Amazon.com has running as of publication time. Please note that all deals are subject to change or sell out at any time based on supply and demand. These are the deals for Feb 17.

Spider-Man: No Way Home [4K UHD]

$29.99

We don’t know when it’s coming out, or what extra features it may have. But what we do know is that you can reserve a copy now for whenever it does. (Feb 28 is the rumor.) The superhero phenomenon of the year makes Sony’s previous Spider-Man movies sort-of canon to the MCU retroactively. Fans of any cinematic form of the web-slinger are gonna need it.

Dune (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital)

$21.99

The second-most Oscar-nominated movie of the year! It’s going to take at least two years to get the rest of the story, so take multiple visits to Arrakis and pore over every detail in the meantime. Denis Villeneuve’s new tale on the material offers epic scope and sound, and the disc comes with multiple making-of featurettes.

Alita: Battle Angel 4K

$9.96

Before The Book of Boba Fett, Robert Rodriguez directed another tale of bounty hunters and modified cyborgs in a desert town, in the aftermath of a big war. And with James Cameron helping him, he did good. Fans still want an Alita sequel, but the longer time elapses, the more star Rosa Salazar would have to digitally de-age as well as digitally eye-enlarge. Maybe if Cameron can ever tear himself away from five new Avatar movies, he and RR can get a Disney+ series going. In the meantime, cliffhanger ending aside, Alita: Battle Angel makes for a pretty great standalone.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom [4K UHD]

$13.12

Prepare for the Dominion by watching a kingdom fall. Before those dinosaurs got everywhere, they had to escape a volcanic island. Then with a modified indoraptor loose in a mansion, it became a game of survival horror. Revisit this most recent dino-crisis before the generations unite to take on a whole new world this summer.

Toy Story 4 (Feature) [4K UHD]

$12.75

Tear up all over again as Buzz and Woody team up one final time. With new allies like Forky and Duke Caboom, can the two toys thwart Gabby Gabby’s plan to take Woody’s voice box? You probably already know, but the journey is always worth it.

CAPTAIN MARVEL [4K UHD]

$13.02

Carol Danvers, Nick Fury, and one powerful alien cat save the ’90s Marvel Universe! Captain Marvel might just be the MCU’s most powerful hero, if she can remember the truth about who she is. And uncover the propaganda she’s been taught. Find out why Nick Fury has one eye, and where he got the Avengers name, in this adventure that spans from Earth to the stars.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage [4K UHD]

$24.49

It’s back in theaters, but you can own it outright instead, and watch safely at home. Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson both pull double-duty as lunatic alien symbiotes and their slightly crazed, mostly dutiful hosts. Tendrils will fly! Fangs will chomp! Actors will overact! And viewers get what they paid for.

Spider-Man (2002) / Spider-Man 2 (2004) / Spider-Man 3 (2007) – Set [4K UHD]

$54.99

Now part of the MCU! Sort of. Witness the first appearances of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, alongside a very different Venom played by Topher Grace. Before Marvel became a ubiquitous cinematic brand, Sam Raimi slung Tobey Maguire around the city on organic web-shooters for three movies, two of which remain beloved. Also featuring James Franco as Harry Osborn, Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy, and Elizabeth Banks as Betty Brant.

Eternals Feature 4K UHD

$24.99 and up

Chloe Zhao might have made a movie too artsy for many MCU fans. But that’s what makes it stands out. Nobody can say that Eternals, which offers up a creation myth for the entire universe and suggests faith in supposedly flawless leaders is inevitably wrong, is just the same old thing. Extras include a commentary track and gag reel, and there’s a lot to talk about in the film itself.
