X-Men: Marvel’s New Weapon-X Is Even Deadlier Than Wolverine

The Weapon-X program has become a core part of Marvel mythology. The secret scientific think-tank was responsible for giving Wolverine an Adamantium skeleton. It was also retroactively tied to Captain America, with the idea that “X” was a Roman numeral. So Steve Rogers was Weapon-One and Logan was Weapon-Ten. In the build up to the Armageddon event, the same minds behind Weapon-X have just made one teenage Mutant even more dangerous than Logan.

Written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Luca Maresca, Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon finds Logan working with his old enemy, Teri O’Barnes. A Mutant with the power to track other Mutants, O’Barnes was responsible for turning Logan over to the Weapon-X program. However, she has turned over a new leaf and asks Logan for his help in saving a teenager named Tyler Torrens from the same scientists, who have reorganized into a private company called PrimeWarrior. Somehow, Tyler escaped their custody after having his own body infused with Adamantium.

Tyler’s trail leads them to a cabin, where Wolverine confronts a Super Soldier. Logan identifies him as David Colton, who briefly held Captain America’s title before the return of Steve Rogers. Colton confirms that he had a hand in Tyler’s escape. However, he warns Logan and O’Barnes that the teen is even more dangerous than they imagine.

Why new Weapon-X is more dangerous than Woverine

Colton explains that Tyler had a healing factor, which allowed him to survive being injected with a formula combining Adamantium and picotechnology. The tech allowed the unbreakable metal to maintain the fluidity of a liquid, reshaping according to Tyler’s thoughts. This meant that he could instantly change the metal into armor or any weapon he might need. He could even stretch the liquid metal, making claws like Wolverine’s that could reach across a room to kill someone.

A later scene showcases just how powerful Tyler is. While trying to steal new clothes, he easily overpowers a security guard who startles him. However, Tyler does not have a killer’s instincts and flees in a panic rather than fight. This suggest that, for all his power, he will have little chance against an experienced warrior like Wolverine.
