Death is a part of life and that is doubly true of major comic book events. Given that, and the approaching end of the new Ultimate Universe, it is not surprising that there would be some deaths in Ultimate Endgame. However, the first major casualty of the Marvel Comics event was still a shocker.

Written by Deniz Camp, with art by Terry Dodson and Jonas Scharf, Ultimate Endgame #3 raised the stakes of this epic battle. The series centers around the heroes of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe titles as they fight the Maker’s forces. Simultaneously, a team made of Spider-Man, America Chavez, Doctor Doom and Tony Stark entered into the Maker’s lair to confront the villain who remade their world in his image.

To say the heroes were outgunned would be putting it mildly. Within his domain, the Maker could effectively rewrite reality. They did receive some unexpected assistance from a being named Kang, who claimed to be a future variant of Tony Stark. However, when Kang refused to fight the Maker, Doom shot Kang’s time machine, sending him out of existence.
Doom reasoned that it didn’t matter if Kang was an illusion or not if he would not fight. Regardless, it seemed the appearance of Kang bought the modern Tony Stark the time he needed to think of a plan. This seemed to scare the Maker more than anything.
What Marvel hero dies in Ultimate Endgame #3?
When the heroes refused to hand Tony over to the Maker, he began trying to unmake them. He started with Peter Parker and his picotech symbiote suit. He then took the form of Carnage, cutting Peter apart while taunting him that he had “left your family for nothing.”

At the same time, Mary Jane Watson seemed to sense her husband’s death. She awoke and began crying in the middle of the night for no reason she could name. The comic likewise concluded with a letter, written by Peter in the event of his death as Spider-Man. The letter was a bittersweet coda to the life of a beloved variant of Spider-Man and the recently concluded Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Ultimate Endgame #3 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
