DC Comics has announced their line-up of give away books for the 2025 Free Comic Book Day event. This comes fresh on the heels of their announcement of a DC All-in special, with a preview of Superman Unlimited #1. This will be part of a special flip-book, which will also feature a special set in the Absolute Universe.
This Absolute Universe story will be written by Jeff Lemire, with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi. Set in this particularly dark DC alternate reality, the story will center around a gathering evil. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure with unclear intentions reveals an interest in the new Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman of this reality.
The flipbook special will additionally contain a ten-page preview of the new Superman Unlimited book. Set in the main DC Universe, the new series will kickstart the Summer of Superman event. It will be written by Dan Slott, with art by Rafael Albuquerque and Marcelo Maiolo. It is rated for readers 13 and up. Although this book will be given away for free, a special edition with a variant foil cover will also be available for $4.99.
DC Comics’ Free Comic Book Day Kids Books
In addition to the DC All-In/Absolute Universe special, DC is offering two books aimed at young readers. The first is a special Free Comic Book Day preview of Superman’s Good Guy Gang. The new graphic novel, aimed at early readers ages 5-7, features a script and art by Rob Justus. The story will find a young Superman trying to form a team with Hawkgirl and the Green Lantern Guy Gardner. The full book goes on sale July 1, 2025.
In addition, DC has another new title aimed at middle grade readers, ages 8-12. Kanga-U: Tests and Tournaments centers upon a young Wonder Woman and the giant kangaroos of Themyscira, called Kangas. It is written by Sholly Fisch with art by Yancey Labat.
Every 20 years, the Amazons celebrate a holiday called Bonding Day, where each Amazon is paired with a similarly trained Kanga. This Bonding Day is special as it marks Princess Diana’s first time to take part in the choosing. However, when the arrival of Ares threatens to ruin the festival, the Kanga called Jumpa and her friends must help Diana save the day. The full graphic novel of Kanga-U: Test and Tournaments is due for release on June 3, 2025.
