James Bond Comic Will Be Written by Comics Legend Gail Simone

Dynamite Entertainment and Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. couldn’t wait for San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to share exciting news about their James Bond line. Gail Simone, a legendary writer of columns, comics, and cartoons, will take control of the comic series. She will also speak at the Dynamite 20th Anniversary panel at SDCC regarding the new series.

Simone first found fame as a columnist, writing comic parodies for CBR. Her work led to a job writing Deadpool at Marvel and her revitalizing the Birds of Prey at DC Comics. Perhaps not coincidentally, most of the titles she is famous for writing share elements of the spy genre.

“It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Ian Fleming’s James Bond,” notes Simone. “I like the version that’s involved in the meanest part of the secret wars of espionage. The kind of warrior who does his work in the dark. I want the Bond who has dalliances with beautiful women and then goes home to an empty apartment. I want adventure and risk around every corner, with the next betrayal always looming over his head.”

James Bond series continues Simone’s hot streak with Dynamite

Gail Simone has a long history with Dynamite Entertainment. Her work on the 2013 Red Sonja revival proved popular enough to add six issues to a planned 12-issue run. Later, Simone oversaw the Swords of Sorrow crossover event, teaming Sonja with other pulp heroines. Her taking over James Bond is only the latest assignment in a long working relationship with the publisher.

“Gail and I, as well as Dynamite as a whole, go back a long way,” notes Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. “She’s one of the most talented, enthusiastic, and kindest creators in this industry. She’s been a heavy hitter on everything she’s touched, and she’s really making another huge impact right now. We’re excited for James Bond to be a crucial part of that.”

Simone’s first James Bond story will be titled Iridescent. Simone promises “high action, big stakes, and a very, very human Bond.” SDCC 2024 attendees will have the chance to hear Simone talk about her detailed plans for the franchise at Dynamite’s 20th Anniversary Panel on Friday, July 26, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in room 5AB.
