The House of Brainiac storyline unfolding in the Superman comics has revitalized the character of Brainiac. The malevolent cyborg reasserted himself as a major threat, kidnapping every member of Superman’s family, as well as every metahuman in Metropolis. However, the latest issue of Action Comics reveals that was just the start of Brainiac’s plans.
Written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Rafa Sandoval, Action Comics #1065 finds Superman and Lobo hot on the trail of the House of Brainiac. The unlikely allies make their way to an interstellar rest stop known as Hardcore Station. It is known throughout the galaxy as “a hot bed of crime and debauchery.” Alternatively, it is also lovingly described by Lobo as “my kind of town!”
It is here they find the man known as Space Cabbie, whom Lobo often uses as an informant. Unfortunately, Space Cabbie has little information to offer. He claims that anyone with any smarts (including him) is keeping as far away from Brainiac as possible. This is due to the the army of Czarnians under his command. However, he does reveal one thing that is of interest to Superman.
Brainiac Has Targeted Worlds Beyond Earth
Space Cabbie reports that Earth is not the only planet to be attacked by the Czarnian army. The worlds of Braal and Titan were also raided by Brainiac and his forces. These worlds are notable as having humanoid life forms that share a common superpower.
The people of Braal have magnetic superpowers. Conversely, most of the people of Titan are telepaths. It should also be noted that Braal and Titan both have a connection to the Legion of Super-Heroes. Braal is the home world of Cosmic Boy, whereas Saturn Girl hails from Titan.
This information does not offer any new insight into the plans of the House of Brainiac. It is possible that they are studying superhumans apart from Superman’s family as part of their ultimate objectives. Alternatively, if they have learned something of the heroic future Brainiac-5, they may seek to learn something of his allies in the Legion.
