House of Brainiac has been billed as the first big DC event of 2024. Action Comics #1064 by Joshua Williamson and Rafa Sandoval opens the story with another unlikely event. Namely, Lois Lane taking her first day off in five years.
Naturally, events are in motion to prevent Lois from enjoying some time away from the chief editor’s office at The Daily Planet. Even as Lois is checking in with the rest of the Superman family, Brainiac is high above the Earth planning his next step. His ultimate goals are still unclear, but his scheme involves an army of Lobo‘s people, the Czarnians.

House of Brainiac: Part One a Perfect Entry Issue
While the preview is light on action, it masterfully introduces the cast before they go to war with Brainiac. The Superman comics have one of the largest and most varied ensembles in all of comics. However, their popularity in other media, and the number of Superman comics, make it hard for casual fans to keep up on current events.
For instance, some might be surprised that Lana Lang and John Henry Irons are engaged in the comics. This mirrors a recent development on the Superman and Lois show, where the two characters began dating. The preview also establishes the existence of less publicly known characters, like Lex Luthor’s daughter, Lena, and the Super Twins.
The preview also establishes that some of Superman’s enemies are on the road to reformation. This includes the original Parasite, Rudy Jones, and Leslie “Livewire” Willis, who now has a job writing for The Daily Planet. It may also include Lex Luthor, who turned control of his company over to Superman when he was imprisoned. However, it remains to be seen if Lex will side with Brainiac in the coming conflict.
