The first preview pages of Dynamite Entertainment‘s Space Ghost revival teased the origin of his young sidekicks, Jan and Jace. Now, Dynamite has released a trailer for the first issue of the highly anticipated comic. It reveals that Brak, one of the Phantom of the Spaceways’ greatest foes, will also be a part of the revamp’s opening issue.
Originally created for television in 1966 by Alex Toth, Space Ghost became one of Hanna-Barbera‘s most famous action heroes. While his original series only lasted a single season and 42 shorts, he continued to flourish in reruns. A further 22 shorts were later produced for the 1981 animated anthology series Space Stars.
Despite that legacy, the origins of Space Ghost have never been revealed beyond a 2005 DC Comics series. However, the trailer for the new comic does not seem to hold that earlier story as canon. Here, the Phantom of the Spaceways is a man of mystery, similar to the Lone Ranger, protecting the lawless frontiers of deep space.

Space Ghost’s Enemy Brak Explained
The trailer for Space Ghost #1 showcases the space-traveling superhero fighting a familiar masked figure. This character is instantly recognizable as the villain Brak. First appearing in the short “The Lure,” Brak was a space pirate whose main concern was acquiring wealth.
Brak was one of the most frequent adversaries depicted in the original cartoons. He appeared as a solo threat in two episodes. He also joined with several other villains to form the Council of Doom devoted to destroying Space Ghost.
Brak was depicted as a more comic figure in Space Ghost Coast to Coast. He also held major roles in the spin-offs Cartoon Planet and The Brak Show. It is clear from this trailer, however, that Brak is back to his original bad-tempered self.
Space Ghost #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on May 1, 2024.
