One of the industry’s most popular radio and television personalities is taking a stab at comic book publishing. Per Variety, Charlemagne Tha God is teaming up with Simon & Schuster and AWA Studios to release his own line of comics and graphic novels.
Charlamagne rose to prominence in 2010 as a co-host of The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 in New York City. Since then, he has expanded his sphere of influence to the publishing and TV markets. His first book, Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, hit stores in 2017. This was followed by Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me a year later. Last fall, Charlemagne began hosting a new series on Comedy Central, Tha God’s Honest Truth. The series will return with new episodes this summer.
Charlemagne’s first graphic novel project, Darkstorm, comes from writer Kevin Grevioux, known for playing Raze in the Underworld franchise. The book centers on a “reluctant superhero” who struggles with PTSD. He is also viewed as an anti-hero, but those in his inner circle know better. Ken Lashley is providing the book’s artwork. Charlemagne will release Darkstorm through his Black Privilege imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Additionally, Charlemagne is publishing a new comic book series, The Vindicators, through AWA. The report doesn’t specify a creative team. However, the series will focus on “a diverse superhero team and a relatable origin story set in a bleak dystopian future.”

“If you know anything about me, then you know how much I love comics,” said Charlamagne in a new statement. “I’m the guy who got Wolverine holding a microphone tattooed on his arm when he was 17 because of my love of comics. Partnering with Kevin Grevioux to present this new universe, filled with Black and brown god-level superheroes is a dream come true. A lot of the Black superheroes I loved growing up were street-level and that’s cool, but I want to see omega-level superheroes that look like me and people around me, and that’s exactly what we are giving you with Darkstorm and The Vindicators.”
