DC Announces Its 2021 Free Comic Book Day Slate

Free Comic Book Day is coming a little later than usual this year (thanks, COVID). Regardless, DC is hoping fans will make room on their shelves for its new selection of offerings in just a few months. The publisher has just released its full list of FCBD titles, and it sounds like they have something for everyone.

DC will kick things off with a special 32-page issue of Batman courtesy of James Tynion IV and artist Jorge Jimenez. The issue continues the ongoing saga of the Magistrate, which has been given the go-ahead from Gotham’s mayor to take over all high-level law enforcement. Unfortunately, the organization has made Batman its primary target. And if that wasn’t enough to deal with, the issue will also feature an appearance by the Scarecrow, who begins sowing the seeds for his latest plan to terrorize Gotham in a lead-in to DC’s upcoming Fear State event.

Additionally, DC is releasing a new Suicide Squad one-shot focusing on King Shark to coincide with his appearance in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The story comes from writer Tim Seeley and artist Scott Kolins. Readers will also get an early look at Brian Azzarello and Alex Maleev’s Suicide Squad: Get Joker! miniseries.

The remaining FCBD titles are primarily aimed at younger fans. DC will preview its new Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven graphic novel for young adults with a standalone issue that features a full chapter from the book. Finally, readers will get a sneak peek at two all-ages graphic novels with a flipbook previewing Batman and Robin and Howard and Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld.

This year’s Free Comic Book Day festivities will be held on Saturday, August 14. You can check out covers and full synopses for DC’s titles in the gallery below.
