Marvel’s The Immortal Hulk To End With Issue #50

Cue the Lonely Man theme, because Bruce Banner is about to walk off into the sunset. Assuming, of course, he survives the events of this summer. After producing 50 issues, Marvel has just announced that The Immortal Hulk will come to an “explosive” conclusion later this year. Writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennett will set the stage for the highly-anticipated finale in the series’ 49th (and penultimate) installment.

Ewing and Bennett launched The Immortal Hulk in 2018, and the series went on to become one of Marvel’s top-selling titles. It has also garnered widespread critical praise. In 2019, it received an Eisner Award nomination for Best Continuing Series. So expectations are certainly high for whatever its creators are planning for the book’s swan song.

“It’s finally time to admit it – Immortal Hulk is reaching the end of the story we set out to tell,” said Ewing in a statement. “Issue #49 brings jade-jaws to the gates of the abyss and a final accounting of his life – in time for a last issue you’ll have to experience to believe.”

To drum up hype for the upcoming finale, Marvel has released a new teaser for the penultimate issue, featuring artwork by none other than Alex Ross. The image also features a caption that ominously reads, “The End is Near,” but we doubt this merely refers to the series itself. A brief logline for the story reads, “the gate is a thing of divine power – a thing of forever. But even for the strongest one there is, it bears the warning: ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE.”

The Immortal Hulk #49 hits comic shops on August 4.
