The CW’s Supergirl hit the 100 episodes milestone after last night’s episode. The special anniversary featured the return of familiar faces on the show, starting with Mister Mxyzptlk — even though, technically, he has the appearance of 911‘s Thomas Lennon now. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Supergirl producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner revealed that they would have liked to bring back at least more characters than the ones fans saw in last night’s episode.
The first name that popped into the producers’ mind was the one of Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant, but she “was unfortunately not available for that particular episode,” Queller confessed. “We would’ve definitely featured her if the scheduling had worked out.”
And even though fans could get brief shots of him, neither Mehcad Brooks’s James Olsen was available, since the actor “was shooting a feature so he couldn’t come back, although he’s in the episode.”

The series’ 100th episode featured Chris Wood, Odette Annable, and Sam Witwer though. They reprised their roles as Mon-El, Samantha Arias, and Ben Lockwood, respectively in a captivating “what if?” scenario, at the end of which fans saw a hard confrontation between the titular heroine and her frenemy Lena Luthor. The confrontation will likely set the storylines from here to the season’s end — and possibly further.
“We really wanted to release Kara from that place of guilt and burden, and just having her with a clean conscience,” Queller said.
“It really propels the last third of the season because from that interaction, Lena [begins] to contemplate what she’s doing and second guess it a little bit,” Rovner added. “And it also allows, I think, for them to come full circle by the end of the season.”
Supergirl episode 5.14 will air on March 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Did you enjoy the 100th episode of Supergirl? Which character would you have liked to bring back? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
