Star Wars: The Clone Wars is Getting a New Comic Series From IDW

The latest trailer for the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has certainly rekindled fans’ love for the time period between Episodes II and III. Now, IDW is hoping they’ll share some of that love with them. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the publisher is releasing an anthology series depicting battles from the Republic’s fight against the Separatists.

IDW’s series is titled Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales and will arrive in five weekly installments starting this spring. Michael Moreci, known for his work on indie comics like Image’s Roche Limit and BOOM! Studios’ Burning Fields, is writing the book. He’ll work alongside Derek Charm, who will draw the covers and provide a “framing sequence” for all issues, wherein fan-favorite characters “share war stories while pinned down in the middle of the conflict.”

Moreci will also collaborate with a rotating cast of interior artists on Battle Tales. Arianna Florean, Megan Levens, Valentina Pinto, Davide Tinto, and Philip Murphy will each contribute to one of the five installments. Additionally, IDW is releasing a variant cover for the first issue drawn by Powers co-creator Michael Avon Oeming.

“The Clone Wars era is probably my favorite in all of Star Wars,” Moreci said in a statement. “It has it all — big adventure, sweeping romance, Force mythology, Jedi powers, and, of course, the awesome clones. This event series is going to bring together all the best, evergreen parts of Star Wars and weave a story that longtime fans (like myself) and new, younger readers (like my own kids) will definitely love.”

Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales #1 will hit stores on April 1. You can view Charm’s cover for the first issue below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
