Dynamite Brings The Boys Back To Comics With New Miniseries

Last year, Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys was introduced to a whole new audience when Amazon premiered its TV adaptation. The show quickly became one of the streaming service’s most-watched originals, so it makes sense that the follow-up season is highly anticipated. Fortunately, fans of the original comic have something to look forward to as well. Dynamite has just shared plans for a sequel series coming later this year.

Ennis is returning to write The Boys: Dear Becky. He’ll work alongside artist Russ Braun, who handled the interior artwork for several issues of the original series. Robertson is also coming back to draw the covers for every issue. The new title picks up 12 years after The Boys’ 2012 conclusion. Hughie and Annie/Starlight have attempted to live a (relatively) normal married life. However, their happily-ever-after is interrupted by the discovery of a mysterious document. Whatever it contains, it “threatens to rip open the scars of the past and reveal nightmarish truths about The Boys.”

“Originally I never intended to do more with The Boys at all,” said Ennis. “But for obvious reasons I’ve found myself thinking about the story and characters again over the past couple of years. There was one aspect of the original story, and one character in particular, that I never felt got a fair shake- Becky Butcher, whose demise motivates her husband Billy to do the terrible things he does, but who only actually appears in two issues of the original book. I liked writing Becky very much, almost as much as Butcher himself, and I wanted to look in greater detail at how her relatively brief appearance cast such a long shadow.”

The Boys: Dear Becky #1 will arrive in comic shops in April. You can check out Robertson’s covers for the first two issues in the gallery below. Are you excited to revisit The Boys universe this spring? Let us know in the comment section!
