The big day has finally come and Marvel has revealed their big Spider-Man announcement. As reported first by The New York Times, versatile artist J.J. Abrams has teamed up with his 20-year-old son Henry for a five-part Spider-Man miniseries which will arrive this coming September. A new villain called Cadaverous will make his debut, causing problems for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and his beloved Mary Jane Watson. The comic will be drawn by Sara Pichelli and colored by Dave Stewart.

In the interview with Abrams and son in the Times, the acclaimed filmmaker spoke about Sara Pichelli’s artwork, comparing it to Maz Kanata’s castle from Star Wars.
“I would equate the experience a bit like working on a movie” J.J. Abrams said. “You have an idea for what Maz Kanata’s castle will look like. It’s theory for months and months, and then you go through phases and design. Then one day you walk onto the set and you’re standing there. You might not be shooting, but you’re just standing on the set. And to get Sara’s artwork, the black and white early renderings, to get those, it’s weird because you’re suddenly looking at a brilliant artist’s interpretation of work that you’ve been talking about for a long time.”
The announcement may have caught some of the web-slinger’s fans by surprise, as many thought Marvel’s big announcement would be a comic adaptation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 concept.
