A new Wonder Woman movie is now officially in the works. We don’t know much about the project, yet, other than that it’s currently being written and will be a “separate thing” for the Paradise Lost television show. Nonetheless, fans are putting forth their own Wonder Woman movie fancasts as excitement builds for the DCU to flesh out its roster towards a Justice League movie.
One obvious question arises: Who should play Wonder Woman? We’ve seen Lynda Carter do it. We’ve seen Gal Gadot do it. Whoever they end up picking will presumably need to have a relatively open schedule (meaning they’re not seriously locked into other franchises at this point in time), given that we’ll almost certainly see Diana show up in other DCU projects beyond this coming movie in the years to come.
While we wait for an official casting announcement to come from DC Studios, here’s a look at some popular fancasts for the DCU’s Wonder Woman.
Who are the most popular Wonder Woman fancasts for the new movie?
Adria Arjona
Adria Arjona just recently finished up her Star Wars role following the finale of Andor Season 2. She certainly looks the part. She’s also been part of other blockbuster movies like 2018’s Pacific Rim Uprising and 2022’s Morbius. Additionally, she’s pretty phenomenal in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, and she starred in 2016’s The Belko Experiment, which was written by James Gunn. Her name has come up a lot for Wonder Woman ever since Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU was announced; this could be a great role for her.
May Calamawy
May Calamawy really burst onto the scene, at least in the United States, after playing Layla El-Faouly in Marvel’s Moon Knight. It’s unclear if we’ll ever see her reprise that role again, but in the meantime, the DCU could be a good fit for her. She’s previously expressed interest in the role before, and it may be the ideal time in her career for a role like this, as she’s been picking bigger and bigger projects: she’s now starring in Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, for example, which arrives in 2026.
Katy O’Brian
Need to be convinced Katy O’Brian would be a good Wonder Woman? Go watch Love Lies Bleeding. That should do the trick. She’s done superhero stuff before, too, having had a minor role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Major Sara Grey in Black Lightning. Having just appeared in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, O’Brian could be looking for a new franchise to sink her teeth into — and Wonder Woman could provide her with that opportunity.
Ana de Armas
Ana de Armas just showed the world that she can kick all kinds of ass in Ballerina. Granted, she had already proved that in No Time to Die, and who doesn’t love her in Knives Out and Blade Runner 2049? But as the DCU’s Wonder Woman? She could change lives. The only potential hang-up could be her schedule; the John Wick franchise shows no signs of slowing down, so there’s a good chance she could be reprising that Ballerina role in the future. But if they manage to make it work, she’d be a lot of fun to watch.
Eiza González
Eiza González is another name that’s come up a lot in Wonder Woman fancasts. Her filmography includes titles like 2017’s Baby Driver, 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel, 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, 2020’s Bloodshot, 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, 2024’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, etc. And she’s great at kind of blending into all of those movies; she always understands the assignment. Her as Wonder Woman? We can see it. We can definitely see it.
Karen Gillan
James Gunn likes to work with his friends. We know this. Karen Gillan has worked with Gunn several times in the past, as she played Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. She nails that role, too; while it seems relatively unlikely that Gunn will direct the Wonder Woman movie himself, the two get one another, and putting Gillan in a role like this could be a chance for her to really show off what she can do.
Alexandra Daddario
You know her from television shows such as The White Lotus, True Detective, and Mayfair Witches. She’s also voiced Lois Lane in a couple of different animated DC projects. Might this be the time for Alexandra Daddario to get a big leading role in something like Wonder Woman? Fans have been wanting to see it, as many have said she’d be perfect for the role for years now. It’d be a great get for her and really exciting to see what she could do with the role if Wonder Woman fancasts are correct.
