Steve Aoki’s Neon Future Gets Comic Adaptation

Steve Aoki, award winning DJ/producer, is bringing his Neon Future series to the world of comics.

Announced via THR, the series will be premiering at New York Comic Con next week and will be written around the ideas from Aoki’s Neon Future I and Neon Future II albums. It will also feature inspiration from his upcoming third album in the series, Neon Future III. Aoki is working with Impact Theory and the comic will be written in collaboration with Jim Krueger. Check out the first look trailer below!

In a future where technology is illegal, a war is brewing between the Augmented, who have chosen to integrate technology into their bodies, and the Authentic, who have not. The resistance movement, Neon Future, strives to bring peace by showing the world a brighter future in harmony with technology.

But when Authentic hero and TV Star Clay Campbell dies unexpectedly, Neon Future’s mysterious leader Kita Sovee (inspired by Steve Aoki) is forced to decide whether to use his latest technological innovation to bring Clay back from the dead. This choice threatens to tip the uneasy balance between the government and the techno-class into an all-out civil war.

“My obsession with mixing science and tech all started when I was a kid reading comic books. It took me on a ride to see how far the imagination can go, seeing ideas crossing the threshold from science fiction to fact,” Aoki explained in an interview with THR. “That’s the foundation of Neon Future, where we’re headed as we evolve, our downfalls, our victories and breakthroughs to find a way to survive and thrive through it all.”

If you are lucky enough to be attending NYCC, the debut issue will be available on October 4 at the Impact Theory table with covers illustrated by Jeremy Repack and Kim Jung Gi. You can also pre-order said issue right here.
