Captain America Joins the Fight in a New Marvel’s Midnight Suns Preview

Steve Rogers isn’t usually a character we expect to see fighting alongside the Midnight Suns. Regardless, the mystical heroes of the Marvel Universe will need all the help they can get when facing Lilith in Firaxis and 2K’s upcoming video game adventure. That’s why Captain America is officially joining the team’s ranks in Marvel’s Midnight Suns later this year. And thanks to some fresh gameplay footage, we have a new look at Cap’s new costume.

The character’s new suit is a far cry from the star-spangled red, white, and blue costume that he usually wears. But since Midnight Suns features a much darker story than, say, Marvel’s Avengers, it makes sense for Steve to change up his wardrobe a bit. As with his other video game appearances, controlling Cap puts a lot of emphasis on shield combat, allowing players to hit multiple targets at once. But judging by the glowing runes surrounding its flaming star, the shield appears to have some extra powers this time, which should come in handy when Cap is stomping out Hydra agents who seem to have fallen under Lilith’s spell.

Additionally, Midnight Suns creative lead Jake Solomon shared new details about the game in a new interview with PC Gamer (via GamesRadar+). Specifically, he was asked if the Darkhold’s inclusion in the campaign was influenced by its recent live-action appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But Solomon claims that it was a “genuine surprise” to see the book on the big screen this summer. He also hinted that the game similarly features a “good” and “evil” version of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. However, Midnight Suns’ version of Doctor Strange will be “fussier” than his MCU counterpart.

“In the Midnight Sons run of comics that this game is inspired by, Doctor Strange would always show up and have this amazing cape,” said Solomon. “He’d be like ‘I could stop her, but if I did, the force of my energies would rip the universe apart. Good luck!’ And then he’d fly off, and you’re like ‘OK, Doctor Strange.'”

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 7. The game will also hit the Nintendo Switch at a later date.
