Nova MCU Series Reportedly Finds Showrunner

The upcoming Nova MCU series has reportedly found its showrunner.

In March 2024, Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum confirmed that the long-rumored Nova project was in “really early development,” per ComicBook.com. There’s been little news about the project since then, as no casting information or release date window has been publicly announced.

According to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Edward Allen Bernero has been tapped to serve as the showrunner for the Nova series.

Bernero is known for working on CBS’ Criminal Minds series. He co-created the 2011 spin-off series Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which starred Forest Whitaker and Janeane Garofalo. Additionally, Bernero co-created NBC’s Third Watch, which aired in 1999 and ran for six seasons.

Bernero also co-created Crossing Lines with Rola Bauer, which was initially broadcast in Italy before it premiered in the United States in June 2013.

What also do we know about the Marvel Nova project?

Not much else is known about the Marvel Studios Nova project at this time. Kevin Feige confirmed that it will be a television show that revolves around Richard Rider in July 2024. At the same time, Feige told ComicBook that it will likely still be “three or four years out.”

Winderbaum provided an update in September 2024. He told ComicBook, “So Nova’s in development right now. We are. But I will say we’re developing more than we make. This is part of the new Marvel. But we should talk about this because at Marvel everything has a spotlight on it and everyone gets super excited and we love Nova. And we want to get it right. But it’s in development. We got a few things in development and we’re not going to go on a show until we are happy with a pilot. Happy with the bible. So it is in development right now.”
