Tom Sturridge is back as Morpheus/Dream in a new look at The Sandman Season 2.
Based on the critically acclaimed DC Comics series of the same name created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, The Sandman premiered in August 2022 with a first season comprising 11 episodes. Production on Season 2 initially began in June 2023 before being paused due to the actors’ strike. Filming resumed following the conclusion of the strike at the end of November 2023 and lasted until August 2024.
Morpheus looks ready for battle in The Sandman Season 2 image
With The Sandman Season 2 set to debut in 2025, TVLine has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes image from the production as part of its #2025FirstLook series. The image shows Sturridge on the set of the Netflix fantasy series in character as Morpheus, with one hand behind his back and the other in front of his body. As TVLine notes, “Morpheus, aka Dream, certainly looks like he’s ready for battle — which would make sense, given that Season 2 will feature even more members of his unruly, highly volatile (and powerful) family than did Season 1.”
The Sandman Season 2 will introduce the remaining Endless siblings: Destiny, Delirium, and Prodigal (a.k.a. Destruction), who will be portrayed by Adrian Lester, Esmé Creed-Miles, and Barry Sloane, respectively. In September 2024, Netflix released a featurette for the new season that teased an episode involving the Endless coming together for a “family dinner.”
The first season of The Sandman adapted the events of the comic’s first two story arcs — Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House — as well as the first two issues of the third story arc, Dream Country. It has been confirmed that Season 2 will adapt the fourth story arc, Season of Mists, which sees Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) abdicating control of Hell and presenting Morpheus with the key to its gates, causing many immortals to try to convince Morpheus to give the key to them.
Besides the aforementioned actors, new additions to The Sandman for its second season include Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Freddie Fox as Loki, Clive Russell as Odin, Ruairi O’Connor as Dream’s son Orpheus, Ann Skelly as Nuala, Douglas Booth as Cluracan, Jack Gleeson as Puck, Indya Moore as Wanda, and Steve Coogan as the voice of Barnabas the dog.
The Sandman Season 2 is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
