Netflix‘s live-action remake of the cherished animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender has released new images which prove that the Fire Nation is ready to attack.

The stills from the upcoming series introduce four major characters from the Fire Nation: Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, and Ken Leung as Zhao. There is also a new image of Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, showing his scarred face and royal topknot.

Avatar: The Last Airbender returns to live-action

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a retelling of the 2005 animated fantasy show of the same name that ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons. Set in a world where some people are born with elemental “bending” powers tied to their geographical background, the story begins with the Fire Nation declaring war and throwing the world out of balance. The young airbender Aang may be able to restore peace, if he can embrace his ability as this generation’s Avatar to bend all four elements.

The series was widely praised for its rich worldbuilding, complex plot and characters, quality animation and eclectic music. It has previously inspired a live-action movie as well as a line of comics and novels, and multiple animated movies are now in the works in addition to Netflix’s adaptation.

In the live-action adaptation, newcomer Gordon Cormier will star as Aang. His closest friends Katara and Sokka, siblings from the Southern Water Tribe, will be played by Kiawentiio and Ian Ousley, respectively. The cast also includes DMaria Zhang as Suki, Yvonne Chapman as Avatar Kyoshi, Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue, Momona Tamada as Ty Lee, Thalia Tran as Mai, Utkarsh Ambudkar as King Bumi, and Danny Pudi as The Mechanist. James Sie, who voiced the recurring comedic character the Cabbage Merchant in the animated series, will reprise the role for Netflix.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2024.
