New Thor: Love and Thunder Screenings Will Feature an I Am Groot Short

Now that Ms. Marvel has come and gone, Disney+ subscribers have just over a month to go until the next live-action MCU series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, premieres on August 17. But one week earlier, Marvel will debut its latest animated offering with five new I Am Groot shorts. And if you live in the Los Angeles area, you can preview the series before anybody else. The El Capitan Theatre just announced that one of these upcoming shorts will accompany select screenings of Thor: Love and Thunder starting next week.

The short will play before showings of Love and Thunder at El Capitan from Monday, July 18 until Sunday, July 24. Additionally, the theater confirmed the short’s title, “Magnum Opus,” and released new key art for the episode. Based on some of the objects that appear in the poster (including a glue bottle, a pair of scissors, and a roll of electrical tape), our guess is that Groot will try his hand at arts and crafts in his first-ever MCU solo outing. As for the corn pops flying in every direction, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Vin Diesel reprises his role as Baby Groot from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films. Writer/director James Gunn is also working on I Am Groot as an executive producer. However, Gunn recently clarified that the series takes place outside of mainstream MCU canon. Kristen Lepore directed all five shorts with Ryan Little serving as the project’s head writer.

I Am Groot will begin streaming on Disney+ on August 10.
