Lucasfilm and Moses Ingram Respond To Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Reva Backlash

Thus far, Moses Ingram’s character, Reva, has proven to be one of the most divisive aspects of Obi-Wan Kenobi. While there may be some legitimate critiques for Ingram’s performance, there have also been a sizable portion of online commenters who have left racist remarks for the actress across social media. So many in fact that Lucasfilm felt the need to respond via the official Star Wars social media channels with the following message:

“There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist. We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.”

Via Heroic Hollywood, Ingram responded as well during one of her Instagram stories.

“Long story short, there are hundreds of those [racist messages]. Hundreds,” wrote Ingram. “And I also see those of you out there who put on a cape for me and that really does mean the world to me because, you know, there’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. And so I question what my purpose is in even being in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know. I don’t really know…”

“But I think the thing that bothers me is that… this feeling that I’ve had inside of myself, which no one has told me, but this feeling of like, ‘I’ve just gotta shut up and take it.’” added Ingram. “You know, I just kinda gotta grin and bear it.’ And I’m not built like that, so I really just wanted to come on, I think, and say thank you to the people who show up for me in the comments and the places that I’m not going to put myself. And to the rest of y’all… y’all weird.”
