With all of the hype surrounding the She-Hulk trailer, it’s easy to forget that Marvel’s next show, Ms. Marvel, is less than three weeks away. As part of the build up to the series, USA Today has posted a posted a new featurette that shares the moment that Iman Vellani learned she was cast as Ms. Marvel.
Additionally, the new video offers a better look at the way that Kamala Khan’s cosmic powers work. As pointed out by many fans, Kamala’s shape-shifting abilities have been re-envisioned as light constructs. Essentially, she has Green Lantern-like powers. And while Kamala desperately wanted to become a superhero, it looks like the reality of it may be overwhelming. Kamala also appears to be in immanent danger from an unknown faction.

In USA Today’s report, Vellani reiterated that she was already a Marvel fangirl before she was cast. However, her idol wasn’t Captain Marvel. Instead, Vellani feels a greater affinity towards Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.
“I can’t do my taxes, but I’ve seen Iron Man 1 a hundred million times,” said Vellani. “As cheesy as it sounds, being a part of the Marvel fandom just makes you feel like you’re a part of something, and isn’t that kind of what we all want? It’s comfortable, it’s what we know.”
Ms. Marvel will premiere on Disney+ on June 8.
