Keto Shimizu Says Booster Gold Was an Attempt To Save Legends of Tomorrow

Near the end of last month, The CW cancelled Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman on the same day, leaving The Flash and Superman and Lois to carry on the Arrowverse’s legacy. However, the creative team at Legends of Tomorrow knew the show was in trouble ahead of time. And according to co-showrunner Keto Shimizu, adding Donald Faison as Booster Gold was part of a last ditch effort to save the show.

In the Tweet below, Shimizu explains that DC and Warner Bros. both wanted Legends of Tomorrow to continue. That’s why they allowed Booster Gold to appear on the show.

The show took some liberties with Booster’s depiction by changing his origin. In the comics, Booster was a disgraced sports star from the future who escaped to the past with advanced technology that he used to start a new career as a superhero. On Legends of Tomorrow, Booster was a time fixer who betrayed the crew of the Waverider only to be arrested alongside them in the season seven finale. But since that became the final episode of the series, the show ended on an unresolved cliffhanger.

If the series had continued into an eighth season, co-showrunner Phil Klemmer said that “if and when Booster does get his costume in season 8, it seems worthy of an entire story or perhaps stories.” However, that seems unlikely to come to pass, unless the fate of the Legends is addressed in either The Flash or Superman and Lois.
