Gaius Charles Cast in The Walking Dead’s Isle of the Dead Spinoff

Once The Walking Dead ends its landmark 11-year run later this year, Maggie and Negan will strike out on their own adventure through a zombified Manhattan. Now, the spinoff has booked its first supporting cast member. Deadline reports that Gaius Charles has joined the cast of Isle of the Dead as a new character named Izaak.

Isle of the Dead will reveal what became of the Big Apple in the wake of the zombie apocalypse. And based on his description, Izaak is one of the city’s biggest power players. He is “confident, ruthless, and unyielding in the pursuit of what he believes is justice, with the force of his will and his menace. Izaak enjoys his work and intersperses humor with the terror he incites. This is a family man, devoted to building a safe world for his wife and daughters. His journey unearths a loss he is haunted by. He has patience and resilience and walks rather than runs from his mistakes.”

Charles is best known for his role as Brian “Smash” Williams on NBC’s Friday Night Lights. He has also been a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy and Taken. On the big screen, Charlies recently appeared in Alice, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year.

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan in Isle of the Dead. The show is one of several spinoffs that AMC currently has in the works. The other big one was set to have Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride returning as Daryl and Carol, respectively. But earlier this week, McBride dropped out, which means AMC is likely re-evaluating its plans for the series.

Isle of the Dead will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2023.
