Composer Michael Giacchino is no stranger to comic book adaptations. However, his next project will be a more hands-on experience. The Wrap is reporting that Giacchino will direct the untitled Marvel Studios Halloween special based on Werewolf by Night.
Giacchino does have one previous live-action genre credit as a director. He previously helmed the short film, Monster Challenge, as well as an episode of Star Trek: Short Treks. But he is best known for composing music for The Incredibles, Star Trek (2009), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lost, Jurassic World, and War For the Planet of the Apes.
More recently, Giacchino scored The Batman for director Matt Reeves. He has also provided the scores for Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange.

Gael García Bernal is slated to star in the Halloween special, but it’s unclear which werewolf he will portray. In Marvel’s comic book universe, there are two heroes who headlined the Werewolf by Night series. Jack Russell was the first, in 1972, while Jake Gomez was introduced last year in a revival miniseries. Given that Moon Knight made his first appearance in an issue of Werewolf by Night, there could be a connection between Marvel’s next Disney+ show and the Halloween special.
Laura Donnelly is also signed to star in the Halloween special. It’s rumored that her character is Nina Price, the niece of Jack Russell who is a vampire and werewolf hybrid, and the star of Vampire by Night.
The Halloween special will begin filming later this month and debut in October on Disney+.
