Amazon is giving non-sports fans another reason to tune into the Big Game next weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will air sometime during Super Bowl LVI.
It was only a matter of time before Amazon finally revealed footage from the upcoming (and uber-expensive) show. Just last month, Amazon Prime finally announced the series’ official title. This was followed last week by nearly two dozen posters that zoomed in on the characters’ hands. But the posters also provided a glimpse of the costumes and weapons viewers can expect to see when they Middle-earth this fall.
The Rings of Power takes place during Middle-earth’s Second Age. As its title implies, the show will presumably explore the era in which the rings of power were forged. So far, the only character confirmed to be returning from J.R.R. Tolkien’s original saga is Galadriel, with Morfydd Clark stepping into the role played by Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films. However, one of the recently-released character posters suggests that the Dark Lord Sauron is making an appearance as well.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay are spearheading The Rings of Power as showrunners and executive producers. J.A. Bayona directed the series’ first two episodes, with Wayne Che Yip and Charlotte Brändström helming subsequent chapters.
Super Bowl LVI will kick off this Sunday, February 13 at 6:30pm ET on NBC. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on Amazon Prime on September 2.
