With five hit shows under its belt, Marvel’s foray into television has largely gone off without a hitch. But the studio’s upcoming Moon Knight series is bound to put that experiment to the test. Not only is it the first Disney+ MCU show to put a brand new superhero front and center, it also faces the challenge of presenting Marc Spector’s struggles with dissociative identity disorder in a compelling way. Luckily, it sounds like introducing the Fist of Khonshu on TV gave the producers more freedom to do his character justice.
Oscar Isaac discussed Marvel’s approach to Moon Knight while speaking with Morbius star Jared Leto as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series. Specifically, he outlined the advantages of telling Marc’s story on the small screen. Aside from not having to worry about box office numbers, Isaac explained how the medium allows for more creative risk-taking. He also appeared to confirm that Marvel isn’t planning to renew Moon Knight for additional seasons (for now).

“I’d never heard of Moon Knight before, and I collected comics when I was younger,” said Isaac. “I’d heard of Morbius, but I’d never heard of Moon Knight. I don’t know how the process was for you, because [Morbius] is a feature film [and] we’re a limited series. There was a lot of room to try stuff, because there wasn’t the pressure that we’ve gotta make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend.”
“So we could try stuff, we could make it very point-of-view, we could make very weird decisions,” continued Isaac. “And […] at the moment, it feels like that’s where more of the risk is being taken, because it can.”
Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ on March 30.
