Danny Elfman Will Score Netflix’s Wednesday Series

Whenever Tim Burton starts a new project, we can usually count on two things. One, it’s going to be really weird; and two, Danny Elfman is going to write the theme music. Fortunately, it sounds like Netflix’s Wednesday series will meet both of these requirements. Elfman has officially signed on to lend his signature brand of gothic whimsy to streamer’s upcoming Addams Family spinoff.

Burton and Elfman first worked together on Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985. Since then, nearly all of Burton’s films have featured Elfman’s talents, with Ed Wood and Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children being the only two exceptions. Over the course of their almost 40-year partnership, Elfman has churned out an abundance of memorable scores, including Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Wednesday finds the Addams Family daughter starting school at Nevermore Academy, where she learns to harness her newfound psychic powers. Unfortunately, her studies are interrupted by a killing spree in the nearby town. She also finds herself tangled in a 25-year-old supernatural mystery that somehow involved her famous parents. Burton is directing several episodes of the series and will executive produce alongside showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Elfman will score Wednesday alongside fellow composer Chris Bacon. The two previously collaborated on Men in Black: International and the ABC miniseries When We Rise. In the meantime, fans can hear Elfman’s latest work in The Woman in the Window, which premiered on Netflix back in May. Next year, he will also re-team with Spider-Man director Sam Raimi on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Netflix still hasn’t announced a release date for Wednesday.
