Showtime Officially Gives ‘Let The Right One In’ a Series Order

As horror fans get ready to watch (or re-watch) Let The Right One In this Halloween, Showtime has just taken a big step toward getting its own English-language version off the ground. According to Deadline, the upcoming TV adaptation officially passed the pilot stage and has been given a 10-episode order.

The series was initially set up at A&E and A+E Studios in 2015 before moving to TNT a year later. After a pilot failed to go into production, the project lingered in development hell until earlier this year, when Showtime took over and began filling out a cast that now includes Demián Bichir, Anika Noni Rose, Grace Gummer, Madison Taylor Baez, Kevin Carroll, Ian Foreman and Jacob Buster.

Bichir is headlining the series as Mark, a well-meaning father who struggles to take care of his daughter, Eleanor (Baez), 10 years after she became a vampire and now needs human blood to stay alive. The show is taking significant liberties with John Ajvide Lindqvist’s original 2004 novel and the two films it inspired. In those incarnations, the young vampire girl is depicted as being centuries old, meaning her “father” wasn’t an actual relative.

This won’t be the first English-language translation of Lindqvist’s book. In 2010, Matt Reeves also wrote and directed his own American remake, simply titled Let Me In. Just like the 2008 Swedish adaptation, Reeves’ movie garnered critical acclaim. However, some felt it was too similar to the previous film.

Andrew Hinderaker is showrunning Let The Right One In and also wrote the series’ pilot episode with Seith Mann directing. Mann is also helming additional episodes of the show, which will film in New York in early 2022.

Showtime still hasn’t announced a release window for Let The Right One In.
