The Flash Recruits Familiar Characters For Season 8 Premiere Event

A lot of familiar faces are joining Barry Allen’s team this fall. The CW (via Collider) has shared new details for The Flash’s season 8 premiere, which will unfold across five episodes collectively titled “Armageddon.”

The upcoming story arc will show Barry fighting alongside several Arrowverse heroes, including Javicia Leslie’s Batwoman. But more importantly, it will feature the return of other characters who recently made their exits from the franchise. Brandon Routh will be back as Ray Palmer/Atom, a hero whose final episode of Legends of Tomorrow aired last year. Katherine McNamara will also show up as Mia Smoak for the first time since Arrow ended. Plus, fans will learn what Cress Williams’ Black Lightning has been up to since his own series concluded back in May.

Season 7 marked the end of Tom Cavanagh’s run as a Flash series regular. Regardless, “Armageddon” is bringing him back as Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash. And he’s not the only villain set to make an appearance. Neal McDonough will also return as Thawne’s fellow Legion of Doom member, Damien Darhk.

“Simply put, these are going to be some of the most emotional Flash episodes ever,” said showrunner Eric Wallace in a new statement. “Plus, there are some truly epic moments and huge surprises that await our fans. And we’re doing them on a scale that’s bigger and bolder than our traditional Flash episodes. So yes, “Armageddon” is a lot more than just another graphic novel storyline. It’s going to be a true event for Flash and Arrowverse fans, old and new. Honestly, I can’t wait for audiences to see what we’ve got planned.”

The CW has also released its official synopsis for “Armageddon,” which you can read below:

“A powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances and Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world. But with time running out, and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail.”

The Flash season 8 premieres on November 16 on The CW.
