DC Censored a Batman and Catwoman Sex Scene In Harley Quinn Season 3

Harley Quinn season 3 may not be ready to premiere on HBO Max any time soon, but it’s in the news today. The adult animated series has been pretty fearless in its take on DC’s heroes and villains. Regardless, showrunners and series co-creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker revealed to Variety that DC shot down a Batman and Catwoman sex scene in season 3.

“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” related Halpern. “A perfect example of that is in this third season of Harley [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”

Halpern and Schumacker also made sure to reiterate that DC has been “remarkably supportive of their series.” However, it seems that Batman and Catwoman can’t go there. There have been a few scenes on the show of Harley and Ivy after they’ve had sex with each other. However, there haven’t been any actual sex scenes in the series to date.

Variety suggested that “cunning linguistics” could still imply that Batman and Catwoman had that encounter. But it’s unclear if DC made Halpern and Schumacker drop the entire scene.

Harley Quinn season 3 is currently in production. A season premiere date hasn’t been announced.
