After taking a year off, Courtney Whitmore and her cosmic staff are coming back to face new enemies on another season of Stargirl. The CW has released the first trailer for the show’s upcoming sophomore season that offers fresh glimpses at several new heroes as well as two new villains with bold plans for Blue Valley.
Some of Courtney’s Justice Society teammates are about ready to pack it in after vanquishing the ISA last year. Regardless, she isn’t ready to hang up her star-spangled supersuit just yet. Against the wishes of her mother and stepfather, Pat Dugan (a.k.a. S.T.R.I.P.E.), she continues to stay vigilant. And of course, this turns out to be the right call, because both Eclipso (Nick Tarabay) and The Shade (Jonathan Cake) have set their sights on the town’s residents. Courtney must also deal with the return of Cindy/Shiv, who survived their encounter at the end of last season.

The trailer also gives us new looks at Thunderbolt, who will be voiced by Jim Gaffigan throughout the new season. But more importantly, we’re introduced to Ysa Penarejo’s Jade, the daughter of Alan Scott/Green Lantern. Unfortunately, it looks as though it’s going to take a while before she and Courtney are getting along.
Stargirl season 2 premieres on Tuesday, August 10 on The CW.
