Jeremy Irvine Confirms That He’s Playing Alan Scott In Green Lantern

Earlier this month, word broke that HBO Max’s Green Lantern series was circling Jeremy Irvine to play Alan Scott. Now, via The Hollywood Reporter, Irvine has officially signed on to play Earth’s first Green Lantern.

Irvine also confirmed the news on his Instagram account. Additionally, he recited the Green Lantern oath. The oath wasn’t part of Alan’s backstory, but let’s let that one slide.

Alan Scott was created in 1940 by Martin Nodell, decades before Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps were added to the mythology. More recent depictions of Alan have also depicted him as a gay man. The HBO Max Green Lantern series will also dive into that part of Alan’s backstory while showing him as a closeted hero in the ’40s.

Finn Wittrock has already been cast as Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern of 1984. Several other Green Lanterns will also headline the series in different eras.

Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith are the creative team behind Green Lantern. Geoff Johns, a longtime writer on the Green Lantern comics, will also executive produce the series.
