A Halo adaptation has been in the works for well over a decade, but we can thank Showtime for finally greenlighting a live-action TV series almost three years ago. The show recently resumed production after a months-long shutdown due to the coronavirus. However, Showtime’s parent company has just decided to give the series a new home ahead of its highly-anticipated debut. Deadline is reporting that Halo will now air on Paramount+.
ViacomCBS, which also owns Paramount+, will make the news official during a streaming event held later this afternoon. Apparently, the company’s executives began thinking about re-homing Halo as early as last fall after watching the first finished footage from the series. Presumably, this is being done to boost subscriber numbers for Paramount+, which is still known as CBS All Access. The rebrand will take effect on Thursday, March 4.

According to Deadline’s report, Halo had completed filming “55%-60%” of its first season prior to the shutdown. The cast and crew are currently in Budapest putting the finishing touches on the upcoming episodes. Kyle Killen and Steven Kane are spearheading the Halo series as co-showrunners and executive producers.
Pablo Schreiber is headlining the show as the video game series’ iconic protagonist, the Master Chief. He will be joined by a supporting cast that also includes Natasha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani. Jen Taylor is also reprising her role as Cortana from the original games.
Halo will premiere on Paramount+ in early 2022.
