Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian and HBO’s Watchmen Stock Up on Emmys

Fans will be happy to know that The Mandalorian and Watchmen are rocking the 72nd Annual artisans’ awards so far. During the third night of the Emmy Awards, both the Disney Plus series and the HBO one racked up five and four awards, respectively.

The Star Wars show leads the pack for the most awards from voters for the year after dominating technical categories like special visual effects, sound editing, sound mixing, production design, and cinematography awards. The series started strong with 15 Emmy nominations, including a Best Drama Series nomination, which it might still take home. On top of that, guest star Giancarlo Esposito will contend for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series. Taika Waititi also still has an acting nomination for Best Voice-Over Performance.

It also won the Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing for a Limited Series or Movie and the Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or Movie award. The series landed 26 Emmy nominations to lead all other shows, including the Best Limited Series. Damon Lindelof’s show is still in the race for the Best Directing for a Limited Series or TV movie. Lindelof and Cord Jefferson share the series’ sole writing nomination. The show still competes with several acting nominations for its cast in the leading and supporting actress and actor categories.

But there was also glory for Star Trek: Picard and Netflix’s Stranger Things. Yesterday, both series landed an Emmy each. Picard brought home the Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special Emmy. And Stranger Things won the Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour) thanks to Episode 3.08.
