The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Cast Gathers for One Last Table Read in a New Video

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s series finale!

Earlier this week, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. signed off the airwaves after seven seasons together. Even though Wednesday’s two-part conclusion marked the last time we’ll see the superspies as a full-fledged team, everybody lived to fight another day after defeating Nathaniel Malick and vanquishing the Chronicoms. Now, Marvel has shared a special behind-the-scenes look at the making of the episode before filming even began. Fans can now watch highlights from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s last-ever table read.

With showrunners Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell presiding, the actors run through several key scenes from the show’s final hour, starting with Deke’s decision to stay behind in 1983’s branched timeline. Ever since he joined Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in season 5, Jeff Ward has brought a great deal of levity to the show. And it looks like this was just as true behind the scenes as well. There was plenty of laughter to go around as he delivered some of his most memorable one-liners from the finale.

But because this was the last readthrough, there were more than just laughs. There were cheers, like when Ming-Na Wen’s Melinda May announced herself as “the Cavalry” after taking down Chronicom Predictor Sibyl. And naturally, there were tears as well. A few cast members got noticeably misty-eyed while reading through the episode’s closing scene in the speakeasy. However, this was nothing compared to the parting words that Tancharoen and series star Clark Gregg had to share after it was all over.
