The second season of the Disney+ original series, The Mandalorian, was one of the few Hollywood productions to wrap filming just ahead of the coronavirus pandemic. However, Lucasfilm and series creator Jon Favreau aren’t slowing down anytime soon. According to Variety, pre-production for The Mandalorian season 3 has already begun ahead of a formal announcement by Disney+.
Favreau has reportedly been “writing season 3 for a while.” Additionally, Variety notes that “Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for Season 3 ‘for the past few weeks.'” This is because the special effects of The Mandalorian require a long lead time for the series. That’s still essential if a 2021 release for season 3 is in the cards.
Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano will be back as the Mandalorian and Cara Dune, respectively. Presumably, Carl Weathers will also reprise his role as Greef Karga.

The upcoming second season will also feature Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon as a larger threat for the Mandalorian and the Child/Baby Yoda. Additionally, Bill Burr will revisit his role as Mayfield.
Rosario Dawson has reportedly been cast as Ahsoka Tano for the second season. However, Dawson has pointedly refused to confirm or deny that she will play the fan favorite heroine.
The Mandalorian season 2 will hit Disney+ in October. Presumably season 3 will follow a year later.
