CBS Orders Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Ahead of Series Debut

The week starts with some good news for Star Trek fans. According to a report by Deadline, it seems that CBS has renewed Star Trek: Picard for a second season before the first one has even aired. The new 10-episode series by Alex Kurtzman will be available on CBS All Access starting next month. According to Deadline’s own sources, the production of Season 2 should begin as early as next spring. Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s adventures will continue for at least 10 more episodes for the late 2020 or early 2021.

Star Trek: Picard will see a new face in the writing room in its second season. Even though Michael Chabon — the show’s first season showrunner — will stay with the series as executive producer, he will transition to the Showtime adaptation of his novel The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay sometime next year.

Star Trek: Picard will see the return of Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard. The series will also see the return of Star Trek alums including Brent Spiner as Data, Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh Borg, and Star Trek: Voyager‘s Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine along with Marina Sirtis as Commander Deanna Troi and Jonathan Frakes as Riker.

Picard will also be featuring Santiago Cabrera (Big Little Lies), Michelle Hurd (Blindspot), Evan Evagora (Fantasy Island), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Mr. Mercedes, Penny Dreadful), and Isa Briones (American Crime Story: Versace).

Star Trek: Discovery co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman will oversee development on the new show, which is not considered a Star Trek: The Next Generation reboot but rather a continuation of Picard’s story. Michael Chabon will serve as showrunner.

Star Trek: Picard will premiere on CBS All Access on January 23. Are you happy about the announcement of Star Trek: Picard Season 2? Let us know in the comments section below.
